SR9 To Meet New LMP2 Rules
10th August 2009
A Radical SR9 will become the first car constructed to 2011's new LMP2 rules, with the British Eco Racing squad modifying their SR9TDi to take advantage of new mandatory requirements.
The upcoming rule changes will require LMP2 cars to use production-based engines, similar to those found in current GT2-specification sportscars. Eco Racing will use a Nissan V8, developed in conjunction with engine builder IES, to power their ALMS chassis.
Radical have offered advice to team manager Ian Dawson on the fitment of the new petrol unit, replacing the team's current VW Touareg V10 TDi powerplant. "I believe the new rules are sound and will offer affordable engines," said Dawson. "We want to be the first, because right now I don't see anything else out there."
The team plans to display the redeveloped car at next month's Autosport 1000km of Silverstone, held on 12-13 September.
