SR8 beats top Italian Prototype teams at the 6 hours of Vallelunga Gold Cup
25th November 2008
The driver line up of Luigi Ferrara, Massimo Vignali and Nigel Greensall put their UK Garage-Solaris run Radical SR8LM third on the grid at this weekends 6 hour of Vallelunga. The P1 Le Mans Lavaggi LS1 prototype of Scuderia Lavaggi was on pole and the Courage C65 of Renzo Meneghetti was second.
Four Lucchini prototypes gridded up 5th, 8th, 9th and 12th while a clutch of Ferrari 430’s and various Porsches made up the majority of the rest of the field.
The SR8LM was soon leading all the prototypes and for the majority of the race shadowed the Megadrive F430 Ferrari into second. At five hours the time sheet showed the SR8 lapping only two seconds behind the Ferrari.
At five and a half hours, what was later diagnosed as fuel starvation, slowed the SR8LM by 10 seconds a lap allowing the Porsche 997 of Manizio Fratti to sneak into second.
Team principal, Alessandro Breveglieri was non the less extremely please with third, “to beat Italy’s top prototype teams with an “off-the-shelf” Radical is amazing. This result will enable us to sell a lot more Radicals into Italy next year.’
